Regression Candidate's analytics, projections, and rankings incorporate publicly available NFL data assembled by the nflverse open-data project and its contributors. We are grateful for their work and committed to honoring the open-license terms under which that data is shared. This page constitutes the required attribution notice for those materials.

1. NFLVERSE / NFLREADR

The nflverse project is a collection of open-source R and Python packages that aggregate and distribute NFL play-by-play, roster, player statistics, and related data. The data is maintained by a community of contributors and is made freely available under Creative Commons licenses.

Primary Contributors & Maintainers

The nflverse project is maintained by Sebastian Carl, Ben Baldwin, and a broader community of open-source contributors. Full contributor lists are available in the respective GitHub repositories linked above.

2. LICENSE COMPLIANCE NOTES

CC BY 4.0 (general nflverse data)

Under the CC BY 4.0 license, we are permitted to use, reproduce, and adapt the data for commercial purposes provided that we give appropriate credit to the nflverse contributors (satisfied by this Data Sources & Attributions page).

The analyses, models, rankings, and projections produced by Regression Candidate represent original creative and analytical work derived from underlying factual data. Individual raw statistical facts are not themselves protectable by copyright (Feist Publications v. Rural Telephone Service, 499 U.S. 340 (1991)). However, the way data is compiled and the license terms under which it is distributed remain enforceable — which is why we comply with the CC BY 4.0 and MIT terms described on this page. Outside the United States, additional rights such as sui generis database rights may also apply. Our own analyses, models, rankings, and projections represent original creative and analytical work — the original selection, weighting, and presentation of insights built on top of those underlying facts — and are separate from the licensors' rights in the underlying data.

MIT License (package code)

The nfl_data_py and nflreadr package code (not the data) is licensed under the MIT License, which imposes no restrictions on commercial use beyond preserving the copyright notice in derivative source code distributions. Regression Candidate uses these packages as software libraries and is in full compliance.

License Notices (retained from upstream sources)

In accordance with the CC BY 4.0 and MIT license terms, we retain below the copyright, license, and disclaimer notices supplied by our data and software sources. Pasting each source's full license file is the simplest way to satisfy the requirement to retain its copyright, license, and disclaimer notices together.
